Benzoin (main ingredient) along with aloe, storax, and other natural resins in an alcoholic vehicle (approximately 15-20% benzoin content by weight)
Compound Benzoin Tincture is a topical solution containing benzoin and other natural resins dissolved in alcohol. It is used as a protective agent and skin protectant for minor wounds, abrasions, and to protect skin from moisture and irritants.
Allergic reactions (rare), local irritation or redness, contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals, mild stinging upon application
Not for use on large areas or deep wounds. Avoid contact with eyes. Use with caution in patients with alcohol sensitivity. Not recommended for infants without medical supervision. Flammable due to alcohol content—keep away from heat/flame.
No significant systemic drug interactions expected (topical use). Avoid combining with other topical products that may cause irritation unless directed by healthcare provider.
Compound Benzoin Tincture works by creating a protective barrier on your skin through its resinous ingredients. Benzoin acts as an antimicrobial and mild astringent agent that helps protect minor cuts, wounds, and irritated skin from infection while promoting healing. The aloe and storax provide soothing and skin-conditioning properties that reduce inflammation and irritation. When applied to the skin, the alcohol base evaporates quickly, leaving behind a thin protective film that shields the area while allowing the healing ingredients to work on the damaged tissue.
Clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin coat of tincture using a clean applicator or cotton swab. Allow to air dry completely before covering with bandage or tape. Reapply if needed after cleansing.
Apply a thin layer before applying adhesive bandages to protect skin. Allow to dry fully before tape application. Perform a patch test on a small area first if you have sensitive skin. Effective for bedridden patients to prevent pressure ulcers.
Benzoin, Aloe, Storax, Balsam of Tolu, Alcohol (ethanol)
All skin types; particularly useful for individuals with sensitive skin, bedridden patients, and those using adhesive tapes/bandages frequently
