Bisacodyl works as a stimulant laxative that directly stimulates the muscles in your colon to contract and push stool forward. It also increases water retention in the intestines, making stools softer and easier to pass. The medication typically takes effect within 6-12 hours, making it effective for relieving constipation and promoting regular bowel movements.
Swallow 1-2 tablets whole with water, preferably at bedtime. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
